The picture on my homepage is that of my great great grandmother, Mary Stacey nee Wilmot. I do not know the date it was taken but I believe it is the oldest photo that I have. The picture above is of a much older Mary, but again I do not know the date.
Mary was born on 23rd November 1837 at 10 Pill, Messingham, Lincolnshire. She was the daughter of George Wilmot and Sarah Bramhill. She married John Stacey on 10th June 1861 in the Parish Church, Messingham.
John was the son of Aaron Stacey and Mary Chappell. According to the 1881 census he was 41 years old and was born in Thorpe Hesley, Yorkshire. I cannot find his birth record but he was baptised in Wentworth, Yorkshire on 26th May 1839.
John and Mary had 8 eight children, Kelita, Ann, Kate, Everil, Elizabeth, Mary, John and George.
This is a picture of John and Mary. There is no date on the picture but from the clothes they are wearing it could possibly have been taken in the late 1890s, which would make them about 60. They both died in 1916.
John and Mary were buried in St James, Ravenfield, Yorkshire.
The inscription on their gravestone shown below reads "In loving memory of John the beloved husband of Mary Stacey who died February 1916 aged 76 years. Also the above named Mary Stacey who died May 31st 1916 aged 75 years. Peace perfect peace."
Their actual ages were slightly more than this!
